'Consciousness Beyond the Body’ presents the latest theories, research, and applications of out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and other consciousness states that transcend the limitations of one’s physical body space. It features original chapters from leading international researchers, educators, and practitioners who specialise in OBEs. As a modern compilation on the topic, the book aims to meld contemporary scientific evidence with the latest and most compelling practical applications of OBEs.

The volume features contributions from Luis Minero, Nelson Abreu, Ed Kellogg, Ryan Hurd, Robert Peterson, Preston Dennett, Graham Nicholls, Jurgen Ziewe, Clare Johnson, Robert Waggoner, Alexander De Foe, Natasha Tassell-Matamua, Anthony Peake, and Robert Bruce. The entire edition will be made available as an open-access e-release – free to download to the world.

Hi

When i have a very intense OBE severel years ago my consciousness far clearer than "in" a body.
Since i think about that, my consciousness clearer because it was out of my body, or its out of my body because its become clearer?

Hi, Ozi. could it be that both are true? That since you are conscious beyond your physical body you have a clearer understanding, and having a clearer understanding allows you to realise that consciousness does not only belong to the body?

Just my two cents about mental clarity.

Being in the physical, besides the filters (discussed now in recent other threads), there is also "noise." Some of the "noise" is a quite well known phenomena with the source being literally at the atomic level affecting nerve and brain axion/synaptic transmissions. Other sources include accumulation of impurities (in the blood and otherwise).

Attempts to overcome the noise phenomena are some reasons why fasting and meditation are employed, particularly by those interested in reaching out for spiritual transcendence.

Go on a serious fast (like a week or more) and compare before and after blood test readings (eg, bun/urea nitrogen, creatinine). You should see much better readings indicating cleaner blood due to the reduction of waste products associated with the food metabolic process (ie, basically much of the ashes have been discarded from the body furnace).

(This is one of the reasons cited for individuals like Jesus doing his 40 days/nights fast in the wilderness. Mainly, to achieve clarity of mind, focus and spiritual communion regarding the mission that he was sent to undertake. Do a search on the effects of fasting, and you may be quite surprised what people say happened to them personally.)

Out-of-the-body normally is clearer (ie, less noise), but for the neophyte, such mode can be problematic as there now typically can be other issues one of which is inability to control (eg, inability to control becoming fearful and/or their travel - location, mode such as flying and otherwise). First timers particularly, become frightful and concomitantly snap back into the body with great startle (ie, physical body literally jumps on the platform upon which they are laying immediately when the subject snaps back into the physical).

Anyways, my two cents.

Hi Rey, thanks for this very interesting and informative post!

One question, what exactly do you mean by 'noise'? Do you mean audible noise such as for example tinnitus? Or, when I've been too long at the computer I sometimes get a "sshhh" sound in my ears that subsides after a while of relaxing. Is it sounds like these you are referring to, or do you mean some other kind of interference?

Thanks for the link, Heidi! :D
I think what Rey means is noise like you get with audio and radio signals. There is a "signal to noise ratio" in any signal processing (most noticeable in AM radio). When the signal and the noise are both equally strong the signal gets 'drowned out'. Noise is anything that is not the signal you are after but that is picked up anyway. With very small signals the environmental temperature can cause significant noise. When dealing with the interface between the physical and spiritual I have to assume we are dealing with very tiny signals (unless you happen to be a trained medium or suffering from poltergeist phenomena). The only way to process these tiny signals is to methodically reduce noise. Its like trying to get the thoughts to stop when first learning meditation techniques. Here the thoughts can be considered noise because we are trying to tune in to the stillness beyond words and thoughts. Noise can come from any number of sources, both in our own bodies, our environments, our minds and beyond.
Thank you DennisMe! I can well relate to the notion of thoughts being noise. I'm always amazed how quickly and "efficiently" my thoughts can take me on a journey, away from my center, my breathing, my awareness, the here-and-now! Constant chatter up there :D

Oh well, I keep trying.

Fasting though, I can't do that. Triggers migraines :(
In my opinion, noise is the opposite of the stillness, because every noise eventually some type of motion (even high emoitons or feelings, thoughts, desires...).
This is why not easy to meditate or relax properly. We have noiton every level in our life inside and outside.
As i experience it when we are not in our body there is yet have some kind of noise as DennisMe say too, but that more "quieter" then inside the body.
Probably this is why the consciousness have the chance to perception more clearly (even thinks that we dont detect in body), and cover more information with less time outside the body.
If we see this in first time, probably think that with out body existence is superior, but inside the body we have very uniqe experiencess that is impossible with out it and we yet have a chance to have experiences beyond the body too.

Yes, Ozi. I feel I tend to take for granted the sort of experiences I have in everyday life, and struggle for the quieter stillness provided for instance by meditation and other practices, whereas I should appreciate the unique type of consciousness that comes from being equipped with a physical body. Even though I often complain about the miseries of being trapped in what I deem a restricted consciousness, I am occasionally reminded of the huge power we have to expand our consciousness at will when fully awake and involved in our daily chores and seek and appreciate the harmony we can generate around us.

By the way, I agree that fasting has exceptional detoxifying effects, Rey, and headaches tend to dissappear after a few days, at least for me.

What a coincidence. I was just thinking this this morning on my way to work.
How its great that we are aware of being at one with it all while at the same time being thankful for the opportunities that come with separation. Even if it is just an illusion, its a darn good one! I suppose it comes down to finding the right balance, which must be different for everyone because we are all on our own tailor made paths.
