Out-of-Body Experience

As promised in another topic where fortunetelling was being discussed, I am sharing this experience to explain why I have become very cautious when analysing signs and messages that seem to be related to the future.

I had this out-of-the-body experience towards the end of 1997, when we were living in another house, shortly after our son's birth.

A close relative of mine, whom I will call Lucy and who was 25 at the time, was spending time with us occasionally to help us with the baby, though she lived at about 800 km from where we lived.

One morning, when Lucy was not with us but at her parents’ home (800 km away), I had an OBE, triggered by hearing somebody walking in the house and moving forward from the apartment entrance across the corridor. In my OBE I got up from the bed and went to check who was coming in and, halfway along the corridor, I met Lucy, looking beautiful in her beige raincoat and with her long blond hair. The only strange thing was that she was about 10 years older. She looked around 35. Her hair was longer than it used to be in those days, and it was a lighter shade of blond. She looked very attractive and also very wealthy, based on how she was dressed.

The moment I realised she was coming to me from the future, I boldly started asking her questions "about" the future. Being worried about my husband health at the time, I asked her if he was OK, and she said he was. Then I asked her if she had got married in the meantime. Now, Lucy was in-between boyfriends in those days, and I had no idea she might be about to get seriously engaged. Her answer was: «Yes, I am married to so-and-so», and she used a Neapolitan nickname to identify her husband. [Note: she did actually get engaged shortly afterwards, and married in 2002. Her husband's name was correct, but there was more to it. In the OBE, she did not give me the name everyone calls him by, but the special nickname only his parents and closest family members have always called him since he was a baby.]

At this point, I made a comment about Lucy’s obvious wealth: well, she did not have a very happy reaction. She sadly said: «It wasn’t worthwhile!»

That was the end of my OBE.

When I made a final assessment of this experience 10 years later, I could tell that most of what I had seen had come true: Lucy had longer hair, towards the end of 2007, died in a lighter hue of blond, she was married to the person she mentioned to me, and so on. The only thing that had NOT come true, at that stage, and which was not obviously cast in stone at the time of my OBE, was her wealth. The family was not what you would call “wealthy”, husband and wife were working very hard: however they were very happy (and still are). I could see none of the sadness I saw in Lucy's eyes now that that time period had gone by.

I did not reveal the details about this episode until the 10 year-period had gone by, because I was concerned about one aspect. Even though this proved an “alternative” future in which Lucy appeared very wealthy but sad, and told me "it had not been worthwhile", a number of details concerning future events had actually occurred.

Based on my understanding, the crucial factor that had made the difference in the "real" future (where Lucy was not that wealthy at the age of 35 but beaming happy with her new-born baby, after several years and lots of efforts trying to have one) was her husband’s decision to accept a humble but very safe job and Lucy's decision to give priority to motherhood over any career opportunity she might have chosen at the time.

Here is why I take this as some form of evidence about the fact that certain things may just have well been in motion for her at the time (towards the end of 1997), such as her future husband being about to come into her life, but that other choices, which could have possibly led to a wealthier (but not really happier) life, were not made yet.

Now, almost 20 years later, Lucy and her family are very happy, they have two children, her career as a teacher is really taking off, and none of that specific sadness has ever manifested. This is what I would now call a genuinely wealthy life.

I thought I’d mention this as an example of why I feel I need to be very cautious about how I interpret signals coming about the future through dreams, OBEs and any other psychic experiences. Some may be incredibly accurate, but some may be just “potential” futures, and telling somebody that something “will happen” (whatever it may be) could have the power to mess up their lives and distract them from their own path and free will.
Hello from Italy - How I found out about NDERF - A Strange Experience
This is truly the best example I have ever read or heard regarding future premonitions and dreams.
I have always believed it must work along these lines. That, from our perspective, the future is not set and choices we make really do matter!
And yes, it makes doing a 100% prediction as good as impossible.

I suppose its a lot like quantum physics where "Schroedinger's cat" can be both alive and dead at the same time until one of the two possibilities is actualized by observation. Or like an atom having orbiting electrons which have no fixed place but only probabilities of appearing in any particular spot, until measured, at which time they move from probable electrons to actual electrons.

The good news is that the future is always full of possibilities and the brightness or darkness of the future actually depends on our choices and what we focus on. Very intriguing
Thank you, Dennis. It did take a lot of self-discipline to wait ten years, I must say, but it was worthwile. :D

Thank you for posting. The story touched me.

I had what I believe to be a "premonition" type dream about something that will happen in my future but it is a very disturbing thing to happen, so I really cling to the hope that these things are not set in stone.
In many of the interviews with mediums, spiritists & even remote viewers, it is stated that certain aspects of "future" seem to be fixed, but that there are other aspects which are alterable.

An NDE is one of the ways in which a person's future is impacted.

Look at Tuesday night's interview with anesthesiologist Dr Rajiv Parti who had an NDE that was future life altering. In ways, it is remindful of the situation regarding Lucy's possible future.

Former chief anesthesiologist at Bakersfield Heart Hospital, Dr. Rajiv Parti, discussed how his own emergency surgery in 2010, resulted in a near-death experience (NDE) that changed his life completely. He detailed his experience of watching his body from above the operating table while being completely lucid as his "untethered consciousness" traveled away from the operating theater to various other worldly encounters. At first, he found himself in a dark hellish environment, and had the realization that he had led the wrong kind of life, focused on gaining material wealth. His deceased father appeared and led him out of there into a tunnel, where he was presented with a current life review, and two past life reviews.

On the other side of the tunnel, he was greeted by two powerful Christian angels, which was curious since he was brought up Hindu. One of the angels, Raphael, is known as the angel for healing, and doctors, which might have been related to his health struggles, he surmised. From there he was brought to a "Being of Light." Upon his return, Parti eventually made many changes to his life, choosing a less wealth and status-driven path. Many people have tried to explain away NDEs under anesthesia as caused by the administered drugs. But as an anesthesiologist himself, Parti is in a unique position to declare that such medication is very unlikely to create the types of experiences he had.
This is a very interesting and thought provoking example, Rey, especially as it was experienced by a person specialising in the field of anaesthesia and it is also rich of otherworldly contents, such as Parti’s deceased father helping him out of a hellish environment and religious beings Parti had not been brought up to be familiar with.

I have read NDE accounts in which the experiencers ultimately decided to return to physical life after watching the possible future of their family after their death.

Here are Kevin William’s Research Conclusions about “The Future and the NDE”, which list a number of circumstances in which visions of the future affect the NDErs' life and the fact that the future is not set in stone. The sentence that most caught my attention was:

A Successful Apocalyptic Prophecy is One That Doesn't Happen

Even though we may not be equipped to understand what happens exactly with these alternative futures and otherworldly scenarios, and may not necessarily agree with Kevin William’s conclusions, this is a really thought provoking topic, and my gut feeling is that we are faced with these alternative scenarios every single minute of our lives, which is what in my opinion gives us tremendous control and power whenever we make a decision.
Hello from Italy - How I found out about NDERF - A Strange Experience
The subject of foretelling future events, for me at least, like so many other modern understandings, has been extremely misused, abused and badly interpreted by modern western culture which sides with the perspective that we have NO control over our path and that we are something separate from nature and life. Divination is an ancient tool used throughout the world which helps cultures direct spiritual growth. As with any powerful tool it's misuse has led to misunderstanding and misinterpretation of what it's purposes can bring to an individual/a society. It is my belief that it assists our free will choices by showing us in moments of need a panorama of outcomes. I grew up in a household where our bookcase was full of books on the occult, magic, Norse mythology, astronomy. My father regularly referred to rune stones, tarot cards and the I Ching. As a child I was rightly shielded from ever "having a go" until I was ready to understand that what we get from such readings is there to GUIDE and we must use our wisdom to know which is right for us . I am a child of hippies and though I failed to see spiritualism expressed on a daily level (the start of my own search to look deeper) I grew up in an environment much inclined to look multidimensional at our multi lineal "path". For me it is more like the expanding branches of a tree reaching towards the light of heaven where we come from and the roots we set deep into our earth to give nutrients and stability, and the fruits we shed in gratitude. Where we place our attention in life denotes the outcome of this "tree".

How beautifully put, mbee! And how very true!!! Thank you!
