When I was about 18 around 1982, I was in the falling asleep process when suddenly, I felt myself vibrate and begin to pull out of my body at the solar plexus. Terrified does not begin to describe my reaction. I gasped and felt myself come back into my body. Being raised in a fundamentalist religious family with strong beliefs about heaven, hell, and a God that deals out punishments for lots of stuff my rebellious self was doing, I thought maybe it was God trying to show me what would happen if I didn't conform. I had never heard about OBEs or any such thing. However, a few years later I heard someone on a talk show describe my experience sans the gasping and pulling back. It has never happened again, although I wish it would and gave wondered what would have happened if I had let it happen. I would appreciate any insight anyone has about this.

Hello Vicson2 and welcome to the forum! It sounds as if you experienced Astral Projection, which is similar to an OBE. I understand your fear, and this is possibly why you returned so quickly. The very first time this happened to me, I felt the same vibration and heard a buzzing sound right before popping out of my body. I found myself ascending with a guide, higher and higher and higher, past space. I then found myself, guide still at my side, at the edge of what I perceived to be the Universe. My guide was about to show me what was on the other side when I became a bit frightened that I would not be able to return. At that point I very quickly came back into my body and awakened. I had never heard of Astral Projection at the time and began researching NDEs and OBEs when I stumbled upon AP which was precisely what I had experienced. I have experienced spontaneous AP other times and have come to learn that it can be very interesting indeed.

Thank you. It has never happened again and I have researched how to do it with no luck (or skill). Wish it would or I could! Will research the differences between OBE and AP. Interesting. Around the same time that happened, I started having vivid dreams of people who had crossed over as well as prophetic dreams. It doesn't happen often but enough that it's hard to explain away as a coincidence. And I have wondered if the AP experience opened that door. Thank you for your response and for validating the experience.

You are most welcome I have always had vivid and prophetic dreams, as well as dream visitations with those who have crossed over. I have been given glimpses of The Other Side and have seen the "light" and tunnel many times. I also sense, feel, smell, hear and have even seen Spirits with my own eyes.

That's really cool. Unfortunately nothing like OBEs or dream visitations has happened to me, at least as far as I can remember. I wish it would.

I don't know. I guess a little change every once in a while is a good thing.

Please read my post. On 7 March, just the other day, I felt a vibration prior to floating out of my body. I'm not religious and I've never experienced anything like this before. I'm searching for answers too.
