Prayers to souls in the afterlife.

Hello,

Can souls in the afterlife feel prayers from their loved ones? If yes, how do loved ones' prayers or merit dedicate to souls affect them?

Apology for asking this, if you know the answer to above, what are your sources for that info?

In some of his books on spiritism, William Stead stated the deceased can hear the living's thoughts about them. So there is a good chance that they do.
