Even though I am not a psychologist, I absolutely understand and agree about this statement. This principle does not only apply to empathy.The Paradox of Empathy
If we are not capable of extending empathy toward ourselves but continue to demand empathy from others, we are rarely going to receive true empathy.
For instance, if I don’t feel worthy of being loved, or respected or of receiving a decent wage, no amount of love, respect or money I direct to others will help me to gain what I need.
This happens because, by not feeling worthy to receive, I am unable to visualize myself receiving or expect myself receiving, and allow my needs to manifest.
